People from all walks of life are seeking natural medicines to treat medical conditions as an alternative to pharmaceuticals, which are often harmful or full of side effects. The benefit to society from using medical marijuana is far-reaching, and the increasing ability of the plant to treat and prevent a variety of ailments continues to reach new heights. Contrary to the beliefs of many, the use of cannabis has numerous positive effects on the body and mind.

Marijuana, also known as cannabis, is the plant used as a medicinal drug, as is also used as a street drug. THC, also known as tetrahydrocannabinol, is the primary compound that gives marijuana its psychoactive properties. THC is just one of 400 other compounds inside the plant, including active cannabinoids such as CBD (cannabidiol), THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarim) and CNB (cannabinol).

The impact of Cannabis on the mind

Cannabis usage affects the mind in many ways, especially in its enhances both hemispheres of the brain. During active cannabinoid usage, the capillaries dilate in a parasympathetic fashion, increasing the blood supply to the brain. Oxygen is increased as more blood flows to the brain, resulting in broader and clearer thinking.

Furthermore, the creativity is increased as both sides of the brain become engaged, expanding the level of consciousness. While the left brain processes more logic, stimulation of the right brain hemisphere allows heightened intuition. The effect of active cannabinoids on the brain, however, varies depending on the mental state of the person at the time of ingestion.

Active cannabinoids are also effective in shifting the patterns of brain waves. During everyday life, the brain tends to produce more Beta waves, which are associated with logical thinking, stress, emotions, and a fully “aware” state of mind. Cannabis promotes higher production of Alpha waves in the brain, which can benefit the mind significantly. The benefits of Alpha brain wave activity are:

  •          Reduced stress and anxiety
  •          Creating a “relaxed” feeling
  •          Improved learning and memory
  •          Social interactions become more positive
  •          Increased creativity
  •          Increased problem solving abilities
  •          Increased immunity to disease

The impact of active cannabinoids on the body

Active cannabinoids are proven to treat, prevent and cure various ailments, contrary to opposing reports from biased media outlets and uninformed individuals. Several of many health benefits associated with cannabis use are:

Cancer prevention—there is a large misconception among people who associate smoking cannabis with lung cancer. Surprisingly, cigarette smoke causes cancer, but active cannabinoids  have not yet been reported to cause any cancer incidents thus far. The American Association for Cancer Research has discovered that cannabis actuallyslows the progression of cancerous tumor growth in the brain, lungs and breasts.

Migraine relief—active cannabinoids are known to be highly effective in treating migraines, perhaps due to the effect it has in releasing muscle tension. Numerous reports from doctors in California claim the ability to treat over 300,000 migraines using Cannabis, but were unable to effectively treat them using conventional medicine.

Addiction worries—cannabis is not physically addictive. People who use the drug may develop a psychological dependence, which can easily be overcome when the person realizes he/she no longer wants to use it. In addition, quitting the use of active cannabinoids will cause no physical withdrawal symptoms, such as those experienced by people who stop using tobacco.

Seizure treatment and prevention—cannabinoids have antispasmodic qualities as well as muscle relaxing qualities. This helps to treat seizures and prevent or reduce the recurrence and severity of future seizures.

Chronic disease treatment—many chronic illnesses cause severe weight loss due to lack of appetite, dehydration, and metabolic problems. Cannabis stimulates the appetite, thus contributing to weight gain and treating bouts of malnutrition.

Glaucoma treatment—Glaucoma, a condition of the eye characterized by increased intraocular pressure, eventually causes blurred vision and blindness. Cannabinoids are highly effective in reducing this harmful pressure in the eyes.

The physical and psychological interaction of active cannabinoids on the body and mind is not to be ignored. The substance directly impacts the ANS (Autonomic Nervous System), relaxes the muscles, and has substantial impact in healing and maintaining health. Cannabis is from the earth and is an herb that does not need to be enhanced or engineered for the active cannabinoids to become effective.

Although the substance is yet to be accepted by mainstream society as a whole, the benefits of this amazing plant are merely being discovered. Society is at the tip of the iceberg in realizing the expanding capabilities of active cannabinoids. There really is good reason behind the U.S. government holding several patents for the medicinal usage of active cannabinoids!
