Medical marijuana can be prescribed to treat the symptoms of many serious illnesses such as epilepsy, cancer, AIDS, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain caused by a number of ailments, and many other medical conditions that cause patients extreme discomfort. Studies have shown that medical cannabis is extremely effective for treating symptoms such as pain and nausea in patients. Despite the fact that medical cannabis is a natural plant substance, its use is very controversial. There are many avid supporters its use while there are many who avidly oppose it. It is important to bust the myths of medical marijuana and learn the truth about this vital treatment because there are many people suffering with debilitating medical conditions who can greatly benefit from the use of it under a competent doctor’s supervision.

Is Medical Marijuana a Gateway Drug that is Possibly Extremely Addictive?

Many people who are against medical marijuana claim that it is highly addictive and because of possible addition, it is very dangerous, yet numerous studies have shown that is not the case at all. Medical cannabis does not even contain any chemicals that would cause addiction to take place in those who are treated with it. Those who are opposed to medical marijuana also claim that the use of medical cannabis leads to the use of harder drugs such as cocaine, but many studies of medical cannabis have shown that to be a myth as well.

Do You Have to Smoke Medical Cannabis to Use it?

Medical marijuana can be smoked, but it does not have to be smoked. Patients being treated with it can use it in many other ways. There are prescription drugs that are synthetic forms of medical marijuana that have been created and are available in certain countries. They contain cannabinoids such as THC and are found in pill form.

One of the ways medical cannabis can be used is by drinking it. THC and additional cannabinoids can be extracted from marijuana by soaking the leaves and flower tops in an alcohol mixture. This process transfers the extracted THC and additional cannabinoids into a liquid. A patient can drink the infused liquid, add it to their food or drinks, or put it on their skin, so it is absorbed into the body through the skin. This method of medical marijuana treatment usually takes about half an hour to take effect.

Medical Marijuana can also be simmered in butter or cooking oil over a period of many hours until the THC and additional cannabinoids are extracted from it and transferred into the butter or cooking oil. The marijuana plant is then removed from the butter or cooking oil and is discarded during this process. The butter or cooking oil containing these extractions is usually used to make baked goods such as brownies and cookies but it can be added to any other type of food the patient desires as well. Using medical cannabis in this fashion yields the longest lasting effects of the treatment and generally takes about an hour to take effect.

Does Medical Cannabis Cause Memory Loss and Reduced Intelligence?

Studies have shown that medical marijuana does cause short-term memory loss while patients are being treated with it, but this effect is only temporary. Additional studies have shown that it does not affect the long-term memory of patients at all and does not reduce their intelligence. Medical marijuana has never been proven to be a substance that kills brain cells in patients that use it. During medical cannabis studies that measured intelligence, test subjects using medical marijuana where shown to be able to perform tasks just as well as those who had not use medical marijuana.

Many people have a strewed perception about medical marijuana because of these common misconceptions and myths. They do not realize all of the wonderful benefits medical marijuana has to offer the patients who use it because they cannot find relief from their agony from conventional prescription medications that are widely accepted and favored over medical cannabis by mainstream society. Hopefully, society will eventually recognized medical marijuana as a valuable treatment as they have accepted so many pharmaceutical drugs through the years because medical marijuana is a safe and effective treatment for patients who use it to manage their excruciating symptoms due to serious illnesses.
